These requirements cover inflatable PFDs that may be used by persons age 12 through 15 years
weighing at least 80 lbs when donning is assisted by an adult, and when re-arming / repacking is entirely
performed by an adult. When inflated with CO2 these PFDs are designed to turn many wearers to a
face-up position and provide flotation stability without requiring second-stage inflation and/or secondary
donning.
An inflatable PFD covered by these requirements is:
a) Intended for USCG approval as a Type I, II or III device (as applicable) under 46 CFR
160.076; and
b) Required to be worn to meet USCG PFD carriage requirements;
