This standard specifies requirements for protective covers and other protective measures. Guards and protective measures are used to reduce the mechanical hazards posed by unbalanced rotors at the measuring station of centrifugal (rotating) balancing machines. These hazards arise when balancing various types of rotors and operating balancing machines in different states of balance. This standard defines different levels of protection for shields and other protective measures. And limit the scope of application of each protection level. Devices for adjusting the mass distribution of the rotor and devices for conveying the rotor are not covered by this standard, although some of them are assembled at the measuring station. This standard does not cover the performance of special enclosures, such as noise reduction, windage reduction or vacuuming, which may be required when balancing a bladed rotor rotating at a balanced speed.
