This standard deals with the safety of hand-held electric tools with AC single-phase and DC rated voltages not exceeding 250 V and AC three-phase rated voltages not exceeding 440 V driven by electric motors or electromagnets. Where applicable, this section deals with the common hazards that people encounter in the normal use of tools as well as in reasonably foreseeable misuse of tools. Tools with electric heating elements are within the scope of this standard. These tools shall also comply with the relevant parts of the (GB 4706 series. For motors that are not isolated from the grid and are not designed for basic insulation according to the rated voltage of the tool, the requirements are specified in Appendix B. Electric tools driven by rechargeable batteries and electromagnetic drives The requirements for the tools, and the battery box provided therefor, are specified in Appendix K. The requirements for such battery-operated tools that can be directly connected to the mains or non-isolated power supply for operation and/or charging are specified in Appendix L. Hand-held Electric tools that can be mounted to a stand or workbench as a stationary tool without any modifications to the tool itself fall within the scope of this standard. The requirements for these stand or workbenches are specified in Annex M. This part does not apply to: — - Hand-held tools used in explosive atmospheres (dust, steam or gas); - Hand-held tools for preparing and processing food; - Hand-held tools for medical use (IEC 60601); - Portable electric heating tools involved in GB 4706.41 and similar appliances. Additional requirements may be required for hand-held tools used in vehicles, boats or aircraft; special requirements may be required for hand-held tools used in tropical countries. Note: Attention to the fact that in many countries, There are additional requirements stipulated by the competent departments of health, labor protection, and water sources.
