Scope: This standard specifies the design, construction, safety, performance and acceptance test requirements for windlasses and anchor winches. This standard applies to windlasses and winches driven by electric, hydraulic, steam or external force for sea-going ships. For combined anchor-handling and mooring machines, ISO 3730 should be referred to in addition to this standard. Note 1: The "windlass" referred to in this article should be understood as "windlass and anchor capstan" where appropriate. Note 2: Attention should be paid to the requirements of the relevant classification society or flag government.
