UNI 6917-1971 Classification and identification of soldering irons. The welding materials used for pipe welding are austenitic stainless steel or nickel alloy TIG welding iron
This unification aims to provide a classification of welder workers who must carry out manual TIG welding1), with Cr-Ni austenitic stainless steel or Ni alloy filler material, even without support or internal fuse support, on pipes for the passage of fluids, of any type of steel or Ni alloy, and to establish the methods for carrying out and evaluating the relevant qualification tests. It equally applies to those parts of tubular constructions in which welding poses the same problems. Passing these tests does not exclude that the welder must be expressly trained both for particular jobs, and in the case in which the joints are surrounded by obstacles that make welding operations particularly difficult, through the possible use of appropriate instrumental means, nor excludes the possible carrying out of adequate tests in these cases.
