UNI 6910-1971 Methods for chemical analysis of iron-free metallic materials. Determination of copper in copper alloys, partially replacing UNI 3375. electrolysis
The method considered in this standard is applicable to all the indicated alloys, having copper contents varying from approximately 55 to 95%. In the case of alloys containing manganese in levels greater than 1%, during the electrolytic deposition of copper the manganese partially separates at the anode, together with the lead, in the form of oxide. When the quantity is significant (even when using mesh anodes) the manganese oxide detaches from the anode and, remaining partially suspended in the liquid, can adhere to the cathode, distorting the result of the analysis. To avoid this problem, add 6% hydrogen peroxide drop by drop during the electrolysis (when you begin to notice the detachment of the manganese oxide from the anode).
