This standardization establishes the characteristics of zinc or manganese phosphate-based coatings formed on carbon steel, low-alloy steel and cast iron objects, with the aim of protecting them against the formation of rust. The present unification refers to the phosphate layers intended to be impregnated with oils, waxes, mineral salts, etc. Phosphate layers intended to facilitate the adhesion of subsequent painting are not taken into consideration.
