This standard establishes the general dimensions of short machine and hand taps and essentially applies to taps with normal shank. These taps are used to produce ISO metric triangular profile threads with coarse pitch having a nominal thread diameter from 1.6 to 68 mm and fine pitch having a diameter from 1.6 to 100 mm.
