Scope
This part of UNI ISO 3461 specifies the bases for the creation of graphic signs to be used on equipment. It contains rules for the design of graphic signs, including their shape and size as well as instructions for their application. Graphic signs for use on equipment may be used: ——to identify the equipment or a part of it (for example: adjustment or indication); ——to indicate functional states (for example: on, off, alarm); ——to designate connections (for example: terminals, power points); ——to provide information on packaging (for example: identification of contents, instructions for handling); ——to provide instructions for use of the equipment (for example: warnings, limitations for use). This part of UNI ISO 3461 does not apply to graphic signs to be used primarily for — technical drawings; ——technical documentation of the products; ——public information. Nonetheless, graphic signs originally developed for such uses (see IEC 617, ISO 3461/2, ISO 7001 and ISO/TR 7239) may be applied to the equipment, provided they are made in accordance with the principles set out in this part of UNI ISO 3461.
