Scope
This standard applies specifically to cable penetrations in reactor containments (called "containments" in the text). It covers the engineered safety requirements to be met in the design, calculation, fabrication, assembly, testing, installation and maintenance of cable penetrations. Electrical penetrations provide gas-tight and pressure-resistant penetration through the containment of one or more electrical circuits. For the purpose of this standard, electrical penetrations include: — electrical conductors up to the nearest connecting points within and outside the containment (penetration conductors); — components for electrical insulation of such conductors; — components for the pressure-resistant, gas-tight and temperature-resistant enclosure of this conductor assembly and for connection with the containment wall; — permanently connected devices for monitoring gas leakage. The components which are not part of an electrical penetration include: — components of the containment wall for attachment of penetrations, such as sealing surfaces for bolting or pipe connections or nozzles requiring welding; — cables and lines connected to the penetration conductors or connectors; — terminal elements, such as cable lugs or terminals, or soldering sleeves attached to the cables or lines connected; — leak test or exhausting devices connected temporarily to penetrations. The requirements for external circuits which connect to the penetration assemblies or the containment structure are outside the scope of this standard.
