Scope
As a rule, idcntification of material and condition of metallic shaped materials involves marking. This standard indicates alternatives for this purpose. Marking according to this standard is applied only if stated in the order and if the order defines the way of marking or refers to a standard or to another relevant document. The marking shall be carried out in such a way that the markings are long-lasting and do not affect the characteristics of the product. Normally, marking by full designation makes the best identification possible and should be aimed at. The concept of full designation means a complete designation of material and condition according to Swedish standard, possibly supplemented by the corresponding manufacturer's designation. For material intended for use in pressure vessels and in steel construction marking is compulsory and shall be carried out according to the rules in the Swedish Pressure Vessel Code and the Swedish Steel Construction Regulations. This standard may also be applied to castings, forgings and powder metallurgical products. Usually, marking item by item will be considered. However, marking of these products always requires a special agreement between purchaser and vendor, which shall include the location of the marking.
