Scope
1.1 This International Standard specifies a laboratory method of test primarily intended for small chimneys having a natural draught. 1.2 This test is designed to test small insulated chimneys for tightness, heat insulation and mechanical strength under standard conditions similar both to normal service conditions and to flue fire conditions and for durability against treatment such as may occur during sweeping. The test is part of a series of tests necessary to assess the suitability of a chimney for use, but this test does not provide information on the fire performance of the chimney when installed in combustible roof constructions. 1.3 This test provides information on the performance of the chimney under a set of prescribed temperature and flow rate conditions but does not provide information appropriate to specific heating appliances which may burn a variety of fuels and generate flue gases at different temperatures and mass flow rates. Different standards and tests prescribed by national regulatory authorities will be required to take into account the performance of chimneys when used with a variety of heating appliances.
