Scope
This standard is applicable to microwave signal generators generating substantially sinusoidal radio frequency voltages, which may be frequency modulated, amplitude modulated * and/or on/ off pulse modulated, and having the following characteristics: a) Within the limits of their effective ranges, the power, frequency and modulation characteristics are adjustable to values which are indicated on the generator or in the instruction manual. b) The effective frequency range covers partly or completely the range 1 GHz to 100 GHz. c) It may be possible for the output signal to be on-off pulse modulated and it is possible to switch off the modulation. The modulation may be produced using either an internal or an external source of modulating signal. d) It may be possible for the output signal to be frequency modulated and it is possible to switch off the modulation. The modulation may be produced using either an internal or an external source of modulating signal. e) The effective output power range includes 0.2 mW into the rated load impedance. If this value is not included, other rated values are to be stated by the manufacturer. Generators may be cal-ibrated in terms of matched output power or in decibels with respect to a reference level. f) This standard is applicable to generators operating from a.c. or d.c. mains or batteries. g) This standard is applicable only to generators connected to a rated load. Safety requirements are dealt with in IE C Publication 348, Safety Requirements for Electronic Measuring Apparatus.
