This Pakistan Standard has been intended to cover biological procedures to evaluate the resistance of textiles to attack of micro-organisms. Two procedures have been pres cribed for this purpose :—
(a) Soil Burial Test : This is recommended for treated materials intended for use under conditions involving contact with the soil or under tropical conditions. In this test the rot resistance of the material is evaluated in terms of the loss in breaking strength resulting from soil burial. This method is applicable to the textiles which are expected to be in contact with damp soil for long periods of time, such as sand bags stored on damp ground.
(b) Accelerated Mildew Infection Test (Fungus Test) : This Test is of moderate severity and is less severe than Soil Burial Test and is useful in determin ing whether a treated textile material possesses any resistance to attack by micro-organisms. It is not recommended for treated materials intended for use under conditions involving contact with the soil or under tropical conditions. In this test the rot resistance of the materials are evaluated in terms of the extent of growth of the test micro-organism (Fungus) on the material. This method is applicable to the textile materials which are expected to be used or stored in damp and warm atmosphere and not In contact with the damp soil.
