Scope
1.1 This standard prescribes the methods of sampling of soaps and test procedures for the determination of moisture and volatile matter content; total matter insoluble in alcohol; free caustic alkali or free acid ; matter soluble in water ; total alkalinity of matter insoluble in alcohol (alkaline salts); combined alkali (total anhydrous soap) ; chlorides ; unsaponified and unsaponifiable matter ; unsaponifiable matter ; unsaponified matter ; rosin ; total fatty matter (fatty acids, rosin acids and unsaponified matter) ; titre test of total fatty acids ; acid value of fatty acids ; iodine value ; alkaline silicates; borax; phosphates ; sulphates ; glycerol; sugars ; starch ; combined sodium and potassium oxides, and carbolic acid. 1.2 The standard does not deal with materials but prescribes only the methods for determining whether they comply with the requirements of individual standards. 1.3 Test methods, neither prescribed in this standard, nor specified in any standard for an individual material, are subject to agreement between the purchaser and the vendor. 1.4 Should any inconsistency exist between the requirements of this standard and the standard for an individual material, the latter shall prevail.
