This International Standard specifies the representation of Gregorian calendar dates, points in time and periods of time. It includes a) calendar data expressed in year, month and day within the month; b) ordinal data expressed in year and day within the year; c) data expressed by the year, the week number and the number of the day within the week; d) the time according to the 24-hour system; e) Differences between local time and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC); f) the combination of date and time; g) Time periods with or without start and/or end times. This International Standard applies whenever dates and/or times are included in an exchange of information. This International Standard does not apply to dates and/or times that words are used to represent. This International Standard does not assign any particular meaning or interpretation to data elements presented in accordance with this International Standard. Rather, their meaning is determined by the application context.
