Scope
This part of ISO 2884 specifies a general procedure for determining the viscosity of paints, varnishes and related products with a viscosity of up to 34 Pa?s. It is applicable mainly during production and thinning. It supplements ISO 2431, Paints and varnishes — Determination of flow time by use of flow cups; ISO 2884-1, Paints and varnishes — Determination of viscosity using rotary viscometers — Part 1: Coneand-plate viscometer operated at a high rate of shear. For more accurate methods of measurement of viscosity, refer to ISO 3219, Plastics — Polymers/resins in the liquid state or as emulsions or dispersions — Determination of viscosity using a rotational viscometer with defined shear rate. The apparatus specified may be used in both a laboratory and a factory environment to determine the viscosity of a product and to monitor the viscosity whilst thinning during a manufacturing process.
