Scope
1.1 This standard recommendation relates essentially to structural elements of buildings and highway bridges. Provisions appropriate to liquid storage tanks are omitted here since treatment specific to these is provided in Division 11.1 of Chapter 11 of NZSS 1900*. 1.2 The standard recommendation is intended as a guide for professional engineers and other qualified persons concerned with the design, checking, and supervision of construction of prestressed concrete work. 1.3 Guidance is given in respect of details of materials, stress limitations, basic design provisions, preferred practice, workmanship, inspection and supervision. These recommendations are not intended for use as a contract document either for materials supply or for construction work or as a substitute for detailed contract requirements appropriate to a specific work. 1.4 The standard recommendation relates primarily to statically determinate structures. However, the provisions may be applied to statically indeterminate structures, subject to such modifications as may be necessary for the particular conditions in each case, with due regard to the findings of analytical and experimental studies and to recognised sound practice. Discretion should be used in application of these recommendations where reversal of moments or shears can occur. With regard to integral structural framing, application beyond single-storey construction has not been considered.
