1.1 This standard covers industrial control devices and their accessories used to start, stop, regulate, control or protect electric motors that are intended to be placed in ordinary locations in compliance with the provisions of the National Electrical Code. Whether they are products of national or foreign manufacture. 1.2 This standard covers the following devices and apparatus: a) Manual and magnetic controls and starters. b) Thermal and magnetic overload relays. c) Pushbutton stations (including selector switches and pilot lights). d) Control circuit switches and relays. e) Float, flow, pressure and vacuum actuated switches. f) Resistors and rheostats. g) Proximity switches. h) Relays and switches with time delay. i) Resistors and rheostats designed for industrial heating and lighting, as well as those used in generator fields. j) Controls used in industrial heating and lighting. 1.3 This standard does not apply in the following fields: a) Devices and appliances with nominal voltage greater than 600 volts. b) Electronic or static devices, circuits or systems, or controls for refrigeration installations. c) The manufacture of the internal mechanisms of electrical instruments (such as meters) or equipment intended for use in hazardous locations as defined in the National Electrical Code. d) The sets of control devices for machine tools for metal working. l.4 The boxes indicated below remain. excluded in this standard: a) those intended for hazardous locations, as determined by the National Electrical Code, b) those intended for environments where there is an atmosphere of non-flammable dust, c) those classified as "watertight" or "proof" corrosion by chemical agents".
