The standard applies to various iron oxide pigments for use in paint. These pigments can be divided into:
——groups, according to their color;
——categories, according to their iron content, calculated as iron (III) oxide;
——types, according to their content of water-soluble constituents and their content of water-soluble chlorides and sulphates, calculated as Cl" and SO42";
——types, depending on their sieve residue. The inspection methods are mainly intended for arbitration cases. They relate to the original pigment and can only be applied with reservations to pigments that have been separated from combinations with binders.
