1.1 This standard describes a method for determining the cone fall point (refractory resis ance) of semi-silica and chamotte materials and bricks. 1.2 The applicability of this method depends on the availability of reference cones. The refractory reference cones described in NEN 3512 can be used in the temperature range from 1500 to 1800 °C. 1.3 Although refractory reference cones are primarily manufactured to estimate the temperature effect on semi-silica and fireclay products with respect to their composition, this method can also be used to determine the refractoriness of other refractories and bricks; the results may then be less accurate.
