The standard applies to welding equipment for producing butt-welded connections and to butt-welded connections in pipes and fittings made of polyethylene with a density 5= 930 kg/m3 (PE50): a. in natural gas pipes with a nominal outer diameter =; 90mm; b. in pipes for drinking water or waste water with a nominal outer diameter 5= 63 mm. This standard also applies to assessing field butt welds or test welds using non-destructive or destructive methods. Note The prescribed welding conditions in this standard apply to butt welding of pipes and/or fittings made from the same raw material. Butt welding of pipes and fittings made of different materials can possibly take place under the same conditions. However, this is still under investigation.
