This standard is intended to be applied in the manufacture, inspection and supply of weldable reinforcing steel that is used in the form of bars or spot-welded reinforcement mesh in concrete structures in the condition in which it is delivered by the manufacturer. When delivering rolls of reinforcing steel (hot-rolled, water-cooled or cold-profiled reinforcing steel), the requirements set in this standard must be met for both the rolls and the bars obtained from them. Comments 1. The reasons why only weldable reinforcing steel is included in this standard are:
——the steel types in the various delivery conditions can easily be produced as weldable;
——for practical reasons it is desirable to limit the number of reinforcing steel variants;
——for safety reasons, it is desirable that only weldable reinforcing steel is available on the construction site. 2. Rods are produced from rolls of reinforcing steel through a process of cold straightening. A significant change in the mechanical properties must be taken into account, in particular for the yield or yield strength and the elongation at maximum load. This partly depends on the cold straightening process. Therefore, the buyer or processor of the rollers must make agreements about this with the manufacturer of the rollers when ordering.
