This standard establis es the analysis method for determining the potassium permanganate index in water samples (except residual water) to evaluate its sanitary and hygienic quality. The standard applies to waters that have chloride ion concentrations below 500 mg/L. Samples that have a permanganate value above 100 mg/L will be diluted before analysis The lower detection limit of the method is 2.5 mg/L.
