This standard specifies a test method for determining the residual deformation characteris ics after compression of vulcanized elastomers. The purpose of the test is to measure the ability of elasmers, whose hardness is between 30 and 94 international rubber hardness degrees (IDDC), to retain their elastic properties after prolonged compression at constant deformation in one or other of the conditions described below. With some vulcanizates, particularly those with a hardness greater than 85 DIDC, it may be impossible to achieve 25% compression; this method does not apply to vulcanizates of this type.
