The objectives of this International Standard are a) to clarify the dis inctions and relationships between the main concepts relating to quality (see chapter 4) and b) to provide guidelines for the selection and use of 'a series of International Standards on quality systems, which can be used for internal quality management purposes (is 9004) and for external quality assurance purposes (is 9001, is 9002 and is 90031 (see chapters 5 to 8 inclusive). NOTE — The series of standards (is 9000 to 9004 inclusive) is not intended to standardize the quality systems implemented by organizations.
