The object of this standard is to specify different methods which may be used for the identification of terminals and to define general rules for a uniform system of marking terminals. These identification marks are used in numerous documents such as diagrams, nomenclatures and notices. The safety of personnel and equipment as well as the resulting advantages in the study, assembly, operation and repair of electrical appliances and installations encourage the adoption of a standardized system. The growing tendency to replace production drawings with lis s drawn up by computer and to transmit nomenclatures and notices by tele-typic systems requires that such a standardized system be compatible with these communication methods.
