The purpose of this standard is - to specify the minimum characteris ics of devices for measuring the physical characteris ics of an environment, - to specify the methods for measuring the physical characteris ics of this environment. Its aim is not to define an overall index of comfort or thermal stress but simply to standardize the taking of information leading to this index. Other standards will specify (or specify) the methods for exploiting the information collected based on this document. This standard could serve as a reference for the constitution of: 1) specifications for manufacturers and users of devices for measuring the physical parameters of the environment, 2) a contractual document between two parties for the measurement of these parameters. It applies to the study of warm, comfortable or cold atmospheres in any place occupied by man.
