This standard establis es a classification system for industrial liquid lubricants based on their vis osity. The usual method for determining vis osity is specified in NBN T 52-100 but it can lead to abnormal results if used for non-Newtonian fluids (i.e. fluids whose vis osity coefficient varies significantly with the shear rate). For such fluids, it is therefore important to specify the method by which the vis osity was determined. It is moreover, recognized that there may be products, natural or chemical, used as lubricants, which are not covered by this classification.
