The purpose of this standard is to specify the common characteris ics to which laboratory testing machines and testing systems 1) intended for the compression, flexion or traction testing of materials must meet during loading. In the rest of the text the term "machine" is used both for "testing machine" and for "testing system". The characteris ics of the machines are determined by calibration and relate to the accuracy, fidelity and, where applicable, the reversibility of the machine considered.
