1.1 This Malaysian Standard prescribes methods for the chemical analysis of white metal bearing alloys having chemical compositions within the following limits:
Tin 0.5 to 95 (Note 1)
Antimony 1.0 to 20
Lead 0.1 to 95 (Note.1)
Copper 0.1 to 10
Iron 0.01 to 0.5
Arsenic 0.01 to 2.0
Bismuth 0.01 to 0.2
Zinc 0.001 to 0.01
Aluminium 0.001 to 0.01
Cadmium 0.01 to 0.1
NOTE 1. In this class of alloys, lead in amounts over 20% is usually determined by difference. Tin in amounts of 75% and over may be taken by difference, if the other elements have been determined.
1.2 The analytical procedures appear in the following order:
Clause
Tin by the iodimetric titration method 4
Antimony by the volumetric potassium bromate method 5
Lead and copper by the hydrobromic acid separation method 6
Copper by the photometric cupric bromide method 7
Iron by the photometric ortho-phenanthroline method 8
Arsenic by the distillation-bromate method 9
Arsenic by the photometric molybdenum blue method 10
Bismuth by the photometric thiourea method 11
Zinc by the photometric dithizone method 1 2
Aluminium by the photometric chrome-azurol S method 13
