1.1 This standard specifies a method for the determination of water and sediment in fuel oils by means of a centnfuging procedure. For the determination of water and sediment in crude oils refer to ASTM method D 4007-81 : IP 359, 'Determination of water and sediment in crude oil by the centrifuge method'.
NOTE 1. With some types of oils it is difficult to obtain water and sediment contents with this method. When this situation is encountered, ASTM method D 9 5-83, 'Test for water in petroleum and other bituminous materials' or ASTM method D 473-81 : IP 53/70,'Testfor sediment in crude and fuel oils by extraction', may be used.
