- This International Standard provides guidance on the principles of auditing, the administration of audit programmes, the conduct of quality management system audits and environmental management system audits, as well as the competence of quality and environmental management system auditors. This International Standard is applicable to all organizations that need to conduct internal or external audits of their quality and/or environmental management systems or need to manage audit programmes. This standard can in principle be applied to audits in other fields, in which case special attention needs to be paid to identifying the required competencies of the audit team members.
