This standard covers method of test intended to indicate the relative behaviour of solid electrical insulating materials with regard to their susceptibility to surface tracking when exposed, under electric stress, to water and other contaminants from the surroundings. It is especially suitable for synthetic resin mouldings.
Note 1 —The grading of materials arrived at by this method may possibly differ from that obtained by utilizing other testing methods for the measurement of tracking resistance, for example, tests based on the use of high tension sparks or low tension medium current arcs.
Note 2 — The test results as such cannot be used directly for the evaluation of safe creepage distances when designing electrical apparatus.
