1.1 This standard covers requirements for electroplated coatings of nickel plus chromium and copper plus nickel plus chromium applied to articles made of iron and steel to provide an attractive appearance as well as corrosion resistance.
1.2 For nickel plus chromium and copper plus nickel plus chromium electro-deposits, the minimum thickness requirements apply only to those portions of the significant surface that can be touched by a ball of 20 mm in diameter. All other requirements shall be satisfied on the whole of the significant surface, as defined in 2.1.
1.3 This standard does not cover coatings applied for:
a) purposes other than protective and decorative;
b) coatings applied to machine screw threads; and
c) coatings applied to sheet, strip, or wire in the unfabricated form
or coil springs.
