1.1 This standard deals with the classification of carbides into different ranges of application depending on their use for machining different materials. It also specifies the designation and colour to be used for identifying each range.
1.2 This standard does not apply to tools which do not work by detaching chips from the material but work by shock or plastic deformation, such as mining tools and wire drawing dies; or carbide tips used for lathe centres and contact points of gauges.
