1.1 This standard ( Part I) specifies the basic requirements of ISO series 1 tank containers suitable for the carriage of liquids and for gases, either for gravity or pressure discharge, for international exchange and for conveyance by road, rail and sea including interchange between these forms of transport.
1.1.1 The requirements of this standard are minimum. Where tank containers are required to be used for the carriage of dangerous goods, the design, construction, testing, marking and certification may be subject to additional requirements by competent authorities.
1.2 The tank container types covered by this standard are as follows; the code designation shall be according to IS : 6928 ( Part I )-1973*:

Note — The test pressure given is the minimum value for the respective class. Any tank container with a test pressure in the range between a given minimum pressure and the next higher minimum pressure belongs to the lower class.
