1.1 This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of the modulus of rupture of refractory products at ambient temperature, under conditions of a constant rate of increase of stress.
1.2 The method relates primarily to shaped and fired refrac-tories. If it is to be applied to chemically bonded or tar-bonded bricks, or to unshaped refractory materials, they will usually require some form of preliminary heat treatment. This prelimi-nary treatment, the details of which are outside the scope of this International Standard, is a matter for agreement between the interested parties; it shall be described in the test report.
