This method gives a measure of the ability of an oil to separate entrained air. It is commonly applied to hydraulic and turbine oils, but may also be used for other lubricating oils. It may be used for petroleum-base lubricants or for synthetic fluids such as phosphate esters. This method may also be used to determine the rate of release of other gases from oil when the gas pressure needs to be adjusted to maintain the same gas flow rate. The precision statement does not necessarily apply to other gases.
