1.1 This standard prescribes the requirments and methods of sampling and tests for the various classes ( see 2 ) of automotive engine crankcase lubricating oils formulated from base stocks derived from mixed crudes ( see 0.2 ), for use in reciprocating type internal combustion engines.
1.2 This standard will also be applicable to engines used in stationary applications, such as generators, compressors and pumps, and also marine and railroad applications, wherever so recommended by the engine manufacturers of adopted by the users.
