This part is a test specification for metal oxide varistors used in power supply lines, communication and signal systems of AC 1000V and below or DC 1500V and below to protect equipment, personnel or both from high transient voltages. . This specification applies to two-electrode MOVs and does not apply to hybrid devices. This specification also does not consider the impact of spare parts and their installation on MOV characteristics. The characteristics given apply only to MOVs installed in the manner described in the tests.
