Scope
This standard describes the method for the determination of the linear density, in tex units, of yarns from packages. It is applicable to yarns both as produced and after processing (e.g. bleaching, dyeing). The method provides for the determination of the linear density of yarns in the conditioned state. Where the linear density 'free from removable matter' is required, appropriate scouring methods are given. The method is not applicable to — (i) yarns that elongate more than 5 per cent when the tension in the yarn is increased from 5 mN/tex to 10 mN/tex; (ii) stiff monofilaments and other yarns which will not conform to the periphery of a wrap-reel under the prescribed tension (such monofilaments are usually described by their diameters); and (iii) yarns having a linear density greater than 2000 tex.
