Scope
1.1 This standard specifies a system of check characters that prevent string errors that may occur when copying or keying data. The length of the string can be fixed or variable, including characters from the following character sets: a) Numbers (10 numbers: O~9); b) Letters (26 letters: A~Z); c) Alphanumerics (Letters and numbers). Embedded spaces and special characters in the string are ignored. 1.2 This standard specifies consistency requirements for products that generate check characters and check strings using the system specified in this standard. 1.3 These check character systems can detect the following errors: a) All single character substitution errors (i.e., a single character is replaced by another character, such as 1234 being mistyped as 4234); b) All or almost all The position of a single character is incorrectly swapped (i.e., the positions of two adjacent characters or two single characters separated by one character are swapped, such as 12345 being misrecorded as 123 54 or 12 54 3); c) All or almost all Circular shift errors (i.e., the entire string is circularly shifted to the left or right); d) Most double substitution errors (i.e., two separate single character substitution errors in the same string, such as 1234567 being mistyped) is 72345 87); e) most other errors. 1.4 This standard does not cover systems specifically designed for the following purposes: a) to allow both error detection and automatic correction; b) to detect intentional misuse; c) to verify only strings exchanged between machines. 1.5 This standard is used for information exchange between organizations and is highly recommended for internal information systems.
