Scope

This guiding technical document provides specifications for the use of socioacoustic surveys and social surveys containing issues related to noise impacts (hereinafter referred to as "social surveys"), and stipulates the following issues: a) Basic questions of the questionnaire; b) Grading of feedback; d) Key factors in the investigation process; e) Reporting of investigation results. This technical guidance document does not specify the methods for analyzing the data obtained from the answer sheets. Some of the technical specifications of this guidance technical document may not be consistent with existing sociological or socioacoustic research-specific requirements and protocols. This technical guidance document does not deny the merit, value, and validity of those studies. The survey methods specified in this guiding technical document are only suitable for obtaining data on noise annoyance at "home", and are not suitable for obtaining data on environmental noise annoyance in places such as entertainment venues, workplaces, or inside vehicles. This guiding technical document only stipulates questions related to noise annoyance that need to be used in social surveys, as well as some of the most important specifications involved when comparing with other studies. Other specifications that are beneficial to improve the quality of the survey (such as sampling methods), but are not specifically required for noise social surveys, can be found in textbooks (such as References 11] and [2]). Use of this technical guidance document does not guarantee the accuracy, precision and reliability of the information obtained regarding noise annoyance and its relationship to noise exposure. Other aspects of the survey experimental design, as well as uncertainties in noise exposure measurements and estimates, can significantly influence the interpretation of survey results.
