Scope
This part of GB/T 18901 is the general specification for optical fibers, optical fiber components and optical fiber assemblies for sensing applications, especially in aspects not covered by previous or current standardization work. Fiber optic sensors include an optical sensing element or an optical energy supply element that generates certain information through the interaction of light with the measured object. The sensing element can be the optical fiber itself or an optical energy supply element in the optical path. In contrast to optical data links, which merely transfer information from a transmitter to a receiver, in fiber optic sensors, one or more optical parameters are directly or indirectly changed by an object being measured somewhere along the optical path. The purpose of this standard is to define, classify and provide a framework for certain fiber optic sensors and their specific elements and assemblies. Fiber optic sensors are devices that use fiber optic technology to obtain information from the environment.
