- This standard stipulates the terms related to surface defects, the degree of allowable surface defects and the technical specifications of the method of measuring surface defects. This standard applies to technical documents, technical drawings and scientific publications, etc. The definition in this standard does not refer to surface roughness and surface waviness. This standard does not indicate whether the assessment of surface defects should be carried out, which depends on the specific application or function of the surface. For special applications and manufacturing processes, special terms and definitions may be added where necessary. These terms and definitions will be specified in the relevant standards. Several special surface defects will be defined in other standards.
