Scope
1.1 This standard specifies the principles and methods for evaluating the heat resistance of plastics after long-term heat exposure. 1.2 The heat resistance term used in this standard applies to the test conducted in air. This standard does not apply to the evaluation of the heat resistance of samples in a non-air environment and/or under applied stress. 1.3 The only basis for the thermal aging research of plastics in this standard is that thermal aging will lead to performance changes after a certain period of time. The properties to be investigated are usually tested after the aging temperature has returned to room temperature. During heat aging, various properties of plastics change at different rates. The thermal aging performance of various plastics can be compared, and the judgment standard depends on the type of performance to be studied and the allowable limit value. 1.4 In the application of this standard, it is assumed that there is an approximately linear relationship (Arrhenius law) between the logarithm of the time required to cause a change in a predetermined property and the corresponding reciprocal of the absolute temperature. A shift should occur, especially a first-order shift.
