- This standard specifies performance requirements for indicators that demonstrate exposure to a sterilization process through physical and/or chemical changes in a substance. Remarks l. Indicators are used to monitor whether one or more parameters meet the requirements of the sterilization process, or for specific tests of sterilization equipment.
