Scope: This standard specifies the hazardous activity and classification of radioactive sources. This standard applies to radioactive sources used in civil fields such as industry, medical treatment, agriculture, scientific research and education, and radioactive sources used in military or national defense programs can also be referred to (reference). Reference is made to radioactive sources used maliciously. This standard does not apply to nuclear materials (except for sources containing plutonium-239), radiation-generating devices (except for radioactive sources produced by such devices or used as target materials in such devices), radioactive packages in transport and those where the exposure scenarios are quite different from those set by this standard, such as waste management and when considering disposal options for disused sources.
