Scope
This standard applies to controllers for starting, controlling and stopping fixed fire pump drives, including automatic and non-automatic controllers for fire pumps driven by AC motors or diesel engines. Each controller can only control a single drive. The purpose of this standard is to specify the following aspects: a) The unique characteristics of fire pump controllers, their associated equipment and their operating functions. b) The conditions that the fire pump controller should meet include: 1) The structure of the controller; 2) The key elements of the controller, including installation, layout, wiring and connection; 3) The degree of protection of the enclosure; 4) The mode of operation; 5 ) operation and performance under normal, overload and short-circuit conditions; 6) ability to predict major events; 7) electromagnetic compatibility with its environment. c) the tests used to determine the fulfillment of these conditions, and the methods used for these tests. d) Information provided with the controller or in the manufacturer's technical documentation. In this sense, this standard gives all electrical performance requirements for electric motor driven and diesel engine driven fire pumps. This standard does not cover special applications such as explosive gases, nuclear installations, ships, and aircraft. With regard to power, the requirements of this standard apply only to the type, performance and characteristics of the power supplied to the user port (see IEC 60364-5-55). The requirements of this standard do not apply to means or devices for generating electrical energy, nor do they apply to devices referred to in IEC 60364 between the building input and the fire pump controller. This standard does not apply to diesel engine driven generators which may be combined with stationary fire pumps.
